Reader's Journal #21 &22

Dear Dore,
This week was an autobiography Justin Oh Baby Bieber. I really didn't need to read the book to know that this boy is amazing! In case you don't know everything about him, I'll guide you through it!:)
This book is about Justin Bieber a canadian boy that was born March 1, 1994. His talent was playing sports especially hockey. Hockey is not his only talent, but I'll tell you about that in a little more. Justin's parents, Pattie and Jeremy Bieber got a divorce when Justin was 10 months old. As he grew up, he understood how hard it was for him and his mom, but they got through it. When he was about 12, Justin's way to make money was to go out on the sidewalk and sing with his guitar. He made 200$ one day!! Wow, that's a great accomplishment. Although it's not enough to make things better his mom and him decided to go to Disney for a vacation! Even though Justin's dad was away from him, he still supported Justin as much as everybody else did. Speaking of family members, Justin is more connected to his grandpa than anybody else. He always helps Justin, gives him advice, and is there for Justin in good or bad moments! Justin also loves his manager Scooter Brauns and his producers and workers. Justin also got to hang out with one of his heroes, Usher. That was a great experience for him! Believe it or not, Justin was found on YouTube. His singing was the key that gave him the oppurtunity to be famous! Scooter found him and liked him so that meant that Justin was going to be a musician! From a young age, Justin already played many instruments. He played the drums, guitar, piano, and trumpet. He taught himself how to play all those instruments, very impressive! Drums, piano, and guitar are also 3 instruments  I like and want to learn to play. Sorry, back on topic. Justin  one day went to a singing contest and won 2nd place, he was disappointed but all the other kids had vocal lessons so that made sense! Today Justin is a talented, amazing, HOT, sensative, and a funny 17 year old teenager who is adored by many girls!!!!!! Even famous people like Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, Kim Kardashian and much more love him and his music! Justin even has albums, books written about him, clocks, perfumes, stickers, and etc. Way to go Justin!!!!!! DREAMS CAN COME TRUE!<3
Dore I hope now you love Justin even more!LOL!:) I wanna tell you more about him, but it will never end! You can find out more information by reading this book!!!:)

Name: Adi Binyamin

Title:  “I have a Dream” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Author: Doesn’t say.

Source: The King Center.

The topic of the article is “I have a Dream.”

The main idea of the article is: “I have a Dream” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The main idea is stated.

The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform everyone in the world how one man named Martin Luther King stood up for what he believed everyone surrounding one another should be treated equally and that there should be peace in the world we live at and everyone will learn to get along.

The author’s perspective in this article is subjective because he only includes what Martin Luther King Jr. said about having equal rights and how he wants everyone to get along, but he didn’t state the other side of how a lot of people objected that and how he got in a lot of trouble for making a lot of speeches about his own beliefs.

The pattern of organization of the article is argument and support because the author includes how Martin Luther King compared different states and how people with different racist don’t have equal rights and he basically argued with that and supported it by giving a huge “I have a dream speech” to the world and because of that, people have the rights and equality today that didn’t exist back then.

The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is to break down to the readers how one thing that was very wrong and cruel back then, broke a man’s heart and how he argued with that wrong thought and gave a speech that there should be equal rights between everyone and because of him, we’re getting closer and closer to peace.

Text features included in the article are: title(help us identify the main idea), and the quotes Martin Luther King said about how he wants love and peace in the world and how he wants everyone in the world to be treated equally and respectfully.

This article is about (a summary in your own words) how Martin Luther King believed that racism is wrong and rude among people that are different than those surrounding them and he rose up and did everything he can to prevent racism by using words and no violence.

The significance (importance) of this article is to make people realize that everyone around them are exactly alike doesn’t matter the skin color, culture, or tradition, we are all people with feelings and we should all be treated equally and nicely.

What I learned from this article is that when something is not right or something makes you so angry, violence is not the answer. Martin Luther King used wise words to explain his beliefs and not a single violence was involved and that’s why racism is not that cruel like it was back then thanks to that man.

What I liked about this article is that after every sentence, the author put in parenthesis, applause and the people’s reactions when Martin Luther King gave his speech about how racism is wrong and should be changed.

What I did not like about it is that there wasn’t any pictures to go along with the article to explain it. I think that little picture clues on the side is very helpful when reading the article and I believe every article should show pictures with their writing.

who should read this article and why: I think everyone around the world should read this article to clear their memory of how Martin Luther King changed our world and that now all people with different skin colors and cultures are treated equally and can do everything together because of this man’s intelligent speech to the world.

This article reminds me of (text-to-self) because I’m Jewish and back then a lot of people hated us and those people were the Nazis who caused the holocaust and killed 6 million of us because of our culture. That was the saddest say that will never be forget and will always remember the poor Jews who had to suffer badly at that time. After King’s speech, there’s more people who got his message and are getting along with us, but not all of them.

(text-to-text) I read a bunch of books about Martin Luther King and I learned so much about him that I figured out at the end that he gave equal rights and peace among others and to the world.

(text-to-world) A lot of people today are making peace with one another, especially countries, but also a lot of people are still being racist towards the people surrounding them, which needs to change.

Current Event #5

Date: 1/15/12

Name: Adi Binyamin

Title:  To Preserve History on the Moon, Visitors Are Asked to Tread Lightly.

Author:  Kenneth Chang.

Source:  The New York Times.

The topic of the article is to keep history on the Moon.

The main of this article is: implied/stated) To preserve History on the Moon, Visitors Are Asked to Tread Lightly. The main idea is stated.

The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform readers of how professors and NASA people are trying to keep artifacts and footprints on the moon from being damaged.

The author’s perspective in this article is subjective because he doesn’t include both sides of preserving history on the moon, he only shares with the reader the positive things of why we should keep the footprints on the moon from the astronauts that landed on it.

The pattern of organization of the article is cause and effect because the author states what accomplishments previous astronauts did when they landed on the moon (cause), and now how professors like Beth L. O’Leary called Dr. Donaldson to help protect American artifacts that were kept on the moon (effect).

The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is to show the readers how a huge accomplishment that was on landing on the moon which is the cause, got people thinking that this is truly a big success and those first footprints on the moon should be preserved forever in space which is the effect.

The text features included in the article are: The title, to help us identify the main idea of the article, and different quotes the author put of what professors said about preserving artifacts on the moon and how they are going to do that.

This article is about (a summary in your own words)  How archaeologists  are sending sites to space to  preserve footprints on the moon. For the Apollo 11, first landers Neil Armstrong and Buzz, any robotic or human has to stay 75 meters from the landers, and for the Apollo 17 made by Eugene A. Ceran and Harrison H. Schmitt, their protection is 225 meters.

The significance (importance) of this article is to show the readers how archaeologists, professors, and NASA people truly care about the mission to the moon made by Neil Armstrong, Buzz, Eugene A. Ceran, and Harrison H. Schmitt that they send sites up to the moon to preserve the items and footprints by those astronauts.

What I learned from this article is that there’s actual machines that can preserve things that occurred on the moon from previous astronauts. I also learned that Neil Armstrong wasn’t alone when he landed on the moon, but he had someone with while doing this accomplishment. I also learned that after Neil and Buzz, astronauts, Eugene and Harrison also landed on the moon after them.

What I liked about this article is that the author included quotes that different professors said about keeping history on the moon.  I think that mentioning quotes in the article was very helpful because that way the readers know the opinions and sayings that those people said about preserving artifacts on the moon.
What I did not like about it is that there wasn’t any pictures in the article that described what was written in it. I’m a visualizer and if there were photos on the side of the page, that would have helped me understand the story better.

Who should read this article and why : People who are interested in NASA and  in what happens in space everyday should read this article because they would like to find that the first landing on the moon that happened about 40 years ago, footprints and items that are on there, is being preserved hopefully forever to honor Neil, Buzz, Eugene, and Harrison for being the first ones to land on the moon.

This article reminds me of (text-to-self) because I was just learning about the moon and NASA in science class and we did discuss how those four astronauts were the first ones to land on the moon. For more information, I was excited to know that now what happened on the moon is being preserved.

(text-to-text) A book that I read that reminds me of the article is Ilan Ramon because in the book, it talked about NASA launches and different things that happened to it at that time including the first Apollo 11 launch to the moon made by Neil Armstrong and Buzz.

(text-to-world) This article is similar to the world because there’s a lot of things that are happening to NASA and in space in everyday life. Also, a lot of archaeologists and professors that associate with NASA, send technology to space to keep important memories that happened back then in space.

Reader's Journal #18 and 19

      Dear Dana,
This week I read a book called A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'engle. So far, it's a very interesting and mysterious book. The name of the book sounds boring, but if you actually read it, it's a very entertaining story.
The characters in the book are Meg Murry, Charles Wallace, Mrs. Murry, Mr. Murry, Sandy, Denny, Fortinbras, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Whatsit friends that live with her, Mrs. Buncombe, and Calvin.
The setting takes place in the Murry's House and at the woods where Mrs. Whatsit and her friends live. The climate is stormy and windy.
The plot of the book is about a girl named Meg Murry and one night, she heard the scary storm outside and got frightened. She went downstairs and saw her little brother, Charles Wallace in the kitchen. They sat down and they discussed how Mrs. Buncombe's sheets were stolen. Their mother heard them from upstairs and came down to them. She talked to them about it too and Charles Wallace said that he thinks Mrs. Whatsit did it. Then, a split second, someone was outside the door, and it was Mrs. Whatsit.
They welcomed the old lady to their home and  she admitted to them that she stole  Mrs. Buncombe's sheets. She said that she needed those sheets, but the Murry's didn't say anything to the women about that subject. Then, Mrs Whatsit spoke to the Murry's about a tesseract and left to her own home. Mrs. Murry was shocked, and didn't understand how she have known about the tesseract.
The following day, Charles Wallace and Meg Murry went to the woods with their dog, Fortinbras and saw a haunted house. The kids and the animal went inside the hut and saw a woman sitting down on the couch. It was one of Mrs. Whatsit's friend and then when she saw the children, she kicked them out of the house and told them not to be around here. The kids did what was told of them and went out of there.
Then, Meg and Charles saw a kid and started to talk to him. His name was Calvin. He was 14 years old and they got to know him a little. Calvin went to the Murry's house and stayed there for a little. Meg and Calvin really liked each other and he asked her a lot of questions about her dad who disappeared while working for a secret work in the government for the tesseract. The kids decided to look for their dad.
The conflict of the book is that Meg's father disappeared while working in the tesseract and they used to write him letters and he wrote them back, but that had stopped since he didn't write back to them.
The conflict resolution is that the kids are going to search for their dad and try to find him and bring him back home.
My favorite part of the book is that the kids had the smart thought to bring their dad back home from where ever he was since they hadn't heard from him ever since he gone to work and never came back.
My least favorite part is that the dad got kidnapped and never got back home. I disliked that part because I would be so sad if one day my dad went to work and then disappeared. I hope the kids will bring back their dad and have a happy family again!
Some opinions I have for this book is that it's very mysterious and interesting to read because there's a lot of journeys going on and I can actually travel through it vicariously! I definately recommend this book to you Dana and everyone else who like those types of books!
Well Dana that concludes my summary about the book A Wrinkle In Time. I hope you got a well understanding of what the book is about and thinking about reading it. I love you Dana!!<3
                                                                         Love,
                                                                              Adi<3

Reader's Journal #17

    Dear Sharon,
This week we had a choice to read which ever book we wanted to read and I chose the book The 39 clues: Beyond The Grave, by Jude Watson. This was the 4th book of the series and it was just amazing, one of my favorites! It had so many twists and turns and a lot of mysteries to look forward to while reading. I could definately travel through the book vicariously with all the journeys and adventures the characters did in the book.
The characters in the book are Dan and Amy Cahill ( 2 siblings who are on a mission to find the 39 clues to be the most powerful family member in their civilization, ( Nellie Gomez, (Dan and Amy's au pair who helps them with food, water, shelter, and traveling with them to where they need to find the 39 clues), Theo, ( a young man who helps Dan and Amy find the 39 clues, but then turns out he betrayed them. He also falls for Nellie), Hillary( Theo's grandmother who's devious plan was to trick Amy and Dan), Bae Oh,(Allstair Oh's cousin who trapped Dan and Amy in the hotel room's secret floor Dan and Amy found), Allstair Oh, (Who convinced Dan and Amy that he's a good person now and works with him) Jonah Wizard, ( one of the evil competitors who leaves Dan and Amy planking on an island), and Irina Spasky, ( a competitor in the 39 clues who is also trying to mess Dan and Amy's chance of getting all the 39 clues.)
The setting of this story takes place in Cairo, Egypt. It also takes place in the Ekat Stronghold where one of the clues appear to be, and on an Island where Jonah Wizard through Dan and Amy too.
The plot of this story is about Dan and Amy Cahill who are still on the mission to find the 39 clues. They are now in Cairo, Egypt trying to find their next clue. They found a sakhet in that city and they are now using it to find more clues. They are getting help from Theo, who saved them from buying a replica of a statue that could have helped them in their mission.  They had some difficulties in that city, but not in finding the clues, but trying to escape from their cruel family members. They got stuck in the Ekat stronghold where Bae Oh tapped them there. Luckily, Nellie already caught up of where her children could be and saved them.
Later on, they all went to Grace's best friend's house because she offered them a lift and told them Grace had left her something to give them. Hillary gave Dan and Amy a quest with a message that will gurantee help them in the mission. The children then went off with Nellie and Theo to a museum to find the next clue. They didn't have any luck there when a security in the museum found them stealing a chest which is a clue that can help them in the challenge. Thankfully, they got the clue, found Theo and Nellie and headed out on the boat to help them get to the specific places they need to find their clues in. Unfortunately, Jonah Wizard snuck in the boat and took Amy and Dan on an island without Theo and Nellie realizing it. The kids got chased there by visious crocodiles and got bumbed into a man with a knife.
Turns out, the man was a fisherman and he took Dan and Amy back to Nellie and Theo. Also, the children found out the sakhet they found was missing and that Hilary and Theo stole it from them and was planning to ruin the kids' chance of winning the mission. Nellie then didn't let those evil people to do that to her kids, so she jumped Theo and took back the clue. Amy and Dan also discovered that Hilary and Theo were working for Irina Spasky all along. They then came up with a sage idea which was instead of calling the cops on Theo for what he did, give him a fake Sakhet to give Irina so she would leave them alone.
Happily, the children's plan worked and they were off to find their last clue in Cairo, Egypt which was with the help of the quest Grace gave them. They found the last clue because they met a guy who had the hint to reach the last clue. It was to solve a word code and they kids figured it out. Their last clue found in Egypt was to find 1/2 gram of Mrrph.
The conflict in the story is that Theo and Hilary betrayed Dan and Amy. I think that was very cruel and rude to do that to little innocent kids. I think that Dan and Amy had nothing to worry about because they actually manipulated Theo by getting all the information about the clues they needed and catching him stealing the sakhet and telling him to do them a favor for them to trick Irina into getting their found clue! I think they have the ability to win this mission on their own!
The conflict resolution is that Nellie chased Theo around to catch him from stealing Dan and Amy's clue. I'm glad Theo was caught and that the clue was once again in the kids' hand!
My favorite part in the book was when Nellie was keen enough to see Theo with the sakhet and chase him around to get it back. I think Nellie proved herself loyal to the kids and that she's 100% with them in this mission. I believe Dan and Amy are not only lucky to have each other, but also lucky enough to have a protective and sweet au pair!
My least favorite part about this book is that Hilary and Theo tricked Dan and Amy all along and stole their clue. I disliked that part because they seem so nice and helpful at first, I was sure that they were the only people in the book that actually wanted to help Dan and Amy! I think that Dan and Amy have to trust their own beliefs and do this challenge with one another!!
My personal opinions about this book is that it was very entertaining and well-written. I  really enjoyed reading it, that I couldn't take a break from the book for a second. I think the author continued this book in a very organized and understandable way for the reader to have fun reading. This book is one of my favorites and I for sure want to continue reading the rest of the series.
Sharoni, that concludes my summary! Hoped you liked it and got a good understanding about the book! ( I personally recommend this book to you. you'll love it!!) I LOVE YOU SHARONI!<3
                                                                            LOVE,
