Dear Dana,
This week was to read a short story and I read The Praying Hands. The author was Phylameana Lila Desy. She wrote an inspirational story and I loved it. Even though it was a short story, it has the same reading steps we do for all our journals!
I wanna tell you what happened in the 5 paragraph scene I read.
The characters in the story are are Albrecht and Albert Durer. They are brothers and they both want to go to Nuremberg to study at a Academy for art.
The setting takes place in the fifteenth century in a tiny village called Nuremberg where a family with eighteen children live.
The plot of the story is about a family with eighteen children that lived in a tiny village called Nuremberg. Two brothers named Albrecht and Albert Durer shared the same passion, they both want to go study at a Academy for art. Two of them though can't go at the same time and be together. One of them can go and the other one will work in Nuremberg at the mines for 4 years and then they will switch. In order to decide, the 2 brothers decided to toss a coin and who ever wins, will go to the Academy first. Despite the fact that Albert lost, his going to support his brother with money and everything he needs and after 4 years Albert will go next. When finally Albrecht returned from the great experience of his life, everyone at the village celebrated his great accomplishment and they also honored Albert for going next in the great adventure of his life. All the hard work Albert did for 4 years, ruined his chance to go to that art college. His hands were bruised and his bones were showing at his palm of hands. Sadly, Albert couldn't go to the Academy, and because he sacrificed that great opportunity for his brother, Albrecht decided to paint a masterpiece of his brother's hands to honor of how hard he worked at the mines. He chose to call that sculpture - The Praying Hands.
The conflict of this story is that after Albrecht came back from his college, and his brother couldn't go because he worked so hard at the mines, that his hands were sore that he barely had any energy to use them. That is a very sad ending, but Albert was turned out be the best brother Albrecht could ever ask for!
The conflict resolution was that Albrecht decided to make a painting of Albert's hands for all that he sacrificed for him and how all the work he did was basically for nothing. I think that he really is a true, loyal brother and I hope my brother will be willing to do something so major like that for me!:)
My opinion about this short story is that it's a great story and that it also has a great lesson, any sibling can learn from. I this the author published a great story and I would love to read more short stories by this phenomenal author!
My favorite part of this book is that Albert had really sacrificed his chance of a lifetime for his brother. I liked that part because I honestly don't think any sibling would do that for their sister or brother! If someone is willing to do that, you're one ROCKIN' sibling and you will be thanked for that!
My least favorite part is that Albert couldn't share his dreams with his brother. I disliked that part the most because they wanted to share that passion together and sadly, they didn't. I don't know if that story will be continued but if I was to continue it, I would put that 3 months later Albert was healed and now he could work with Albrecht!!!:)
Dana, I hoped you liked my blog and truly, it is a great story and I LOVED it very much!!! If you read it, it will change your thought about Maya or Tal because in the future, you will never know what a great thing they can do for you!!!!! LOVE YOU DANA!<3

Dear Adi,
ReplyDeletewow!Great journal!! I loved how you told the plot with so much detail! I really dont have a suggestion for you. Im sorry! So here are my questions:
-If you were able to ask one of the characters 3 questions, what character would it be? What would the questions be? Why?
-When you said that you can learn something from your sibling, have you learned anything from one of your siblings? What?!
-lastly, who would you suggest this book to?!
Thanks! Loved your RJ! cant wait to read more! love you!
<3,
Orly
Dear Adi,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog post. It was extremely interesting and very detailed. I loved how you included how you felt about Albrecht. Very well thought. This story was very meaningful and I also read it! What a quiescence!
So I have a few questions to ask you.
Which character can you relate with the most? How?
If you were Albrecht, would you do such a good deed and paint your abused brother a painting dedicated to him?
If you could change something in this short story, what would it be and why?
Very good job on your summary! Love you!!:)

Dear Adi,
ReplyDeleteI really like your vocabulary! You used some nice words in there! I have a few questions for you: Can't Albert go to the art school once his hands are healed? Why didn't the author write that his hands healed and end with a happy ending? If you were to chose, would you be Albert or Albrecht? Is there a specific reason? I suggest that next time you can indent between paragraphs so we know what the main idea is. I really loved your blog!
Sincerely,
Stav Sharoni
Dear Orly<3
ReplyDeleteThank you for this complement, it really means a lot!:)
The three questions I would give to is Albert because I'm more like him, kind, helpful, and I really love sacrificing things when it comes to family. I would ask Albert:
1) Maybe your hands are sored, but why aren't you going to the acadamy to at least learn new information about art in order to become an artist?
2) Do you think your brother would be willing to do this helpful things you did to him?
3)If it was a complete opposite, what would you paint of your brother?
I did actually learn something myself. Now I'm only a kid, but I know for a fact that as we will grow older, we will appreciate our sibilings a little more and do those generous things Albert did to his brother.
I would basically suggest this book to who ever has a sibiling. They will definately learn to do kind things to eachother as time pasts by.
ORLY!!!!!!!:) Great questions and I liked answering them, that showed me that you really read my blog!!!! LOVE YOUUUUU!!!<3

Dear Dore<3
ReplyDeleteI truly love your feed backs, that means a lot!!!!:)
HAHAH! It wasn't a quiescendece that we both read the same short story, but that we both wrote the same blog!!! I was sure you're going to write about a different story!!!:)
I can realte to Albert the most because I'm also kind, helpful, and I'll also sacrafice, even my life when it comes to my family!:)
I would draw Albert's pour hands if I was Albrecht because I want the whole universe to see that those sore hands are not just some cuts, but they are the cuts that happened from being such a terrific and generous brother!:)
I honestly don't think that someting should be changed because what happened exactly in the story shows a big moral. I would though put a different ending which would be that Albert healed and now he can work with his brother as an arist.
Wow Dore, great questions and I liked answering them. Now you know my personality! Like I told Orly, those nice comments and sagacious questions really showed me that you read my blog and that you liked it!!!<3 LOVE YOUUUU!!!<3
Love,
Adi<3
Dear Stavy,
ReplyDeleteI really acknowldege that you liked my blog and noticed my enrich vocabulary. I personally appreicate that.
I'm wondering the same thing. When his hands are healed, he can go back and learn with his brother. That would be my ending if I was the author.
Not all authors or regular people have the same opinion. I guess that ending best fit the writer so that's what she wrote.
I wouldn't want to be neither Albert or Albrecht because both boys did something generous to eachother and I would do the same thing if I was in both their positions.
I like your suggestion Stav. I will do that next time on my blog. Thank you for telling me that, that way I will become a better writer each time I do my post!!!:)
Stavy great questions and You, Dore, and Orly rock for those FANTASTIC feedbacks and questions. I really appreciated that!!! LOVE YOUUU!!!!!!!:)<3
